Virgin mojito recipe – alcohol-free mocktail for BBQ | The Rub Kitchen

The virgin mojito is the freshest mocktail for a BBQ — fresh mint, lime, sparkling water, and a touch of sugar. Ready in 2 minutes per glass, scalable for large groups, and loved by everyone at the table. Especially good with spicy dishes: the mint cools the heat of chili and pepper.

Virgin mojito recipe — per glass

  • 8–10 fresh mint leaves
  • ½ lime, cut into wedges
  • 2 tsp brown sugar or sugar syrup
  • Crushed ice or ice cubes
  • 150 ml sparkling water (or ginger beer for a spicier variation)
  • Garnish: mint sprig and a slice of lime

Preparation: Put mint and lime in a glass. Add sugar. Lightly muddle — just enough to bruise the mint and release the lime juice, not too hard (otherwise the mint will become bitter). Fill with ice. Pour in sparkling water. Stir gently. Garnish with a mint sprig.

For large groups — pitcher version

For 8 people: 60–80 mint leaves, 4 limes cut into wedges, 6 tbsp sugar syrup. Muddle everything in a large pitcher. Fill with ice and 1 liter of sparkling water just before serving. Add mint as garnish on top.

Variations

  • Ginger mojito — replace sparkling water with ginger beer — spicy and aromatic
  • Watermelon mojito — blend in watermelon or add watermelon cubes — summery
  • Cucumber-mint mojito — add thin slices of cucumber when muddling — ultra-fresh for Mediterranean BBQ
  • Alcoholic version — add 40–50 ml white rum for a classic mojito

Pairs well with spicy BBQ dishes

Fresh mint and citrus act as a flavor balance with spicy rubs and marinades:
