Bank Wings Rub — Crispy Chicken Wings for on the Couch

There's only one right way to watch a football match or a good movie: with a bowl of crispy chicken wings within reach. Couch wings aren't a dish — they're a ritual. You put them on, the game starts, and before you know it, the bowl is empty.

At The Rub Kitchen, we make them with a fresh dry rub: no bottled sauces, no fuss. Just spices, meat, and fire.

Which rub do you use for couch wings?

Chicken wings are small but flavorful — and they handle a robust rub well. These are our favorites:

  • Jamaican Jerk — spicy, smoky, and tropical. Perfect if you want something extra.
  • Memphis BBQ — sweet and smoky with beautiful caramelization. The classic.
  • Korean BBQ — umami-rich with gochugaru. For those who want to impress.
  • Tex-Mex — cumin, chili, and warmth. Ideal with a cold beer.

Can't choose? Make a mix: two rubs, two flavor profiles, one bowl. Then everyone has their favorite.

Recipe — Couch Wings with Dry Rub

Preparation time: 10 min prep + 35–45 min oven or grill
Servings: 2–4 people (depending on hunger and the tension of the game)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken wings
  • 2–3 tablespoons of The Rub Kitchen dry rub of your choice
  • 1 tablespoon oil (sunflower or olive oil)
  • Optional: pinch of salt if the rub doesn't contain salt

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels — this is the key to crispy skin.
  2. Mix the wings with oil and sprinkle generously with your chosen rub. Rub in well.
  3. Marinate for at least 30 minutes (or overnight in the fridge — even better).
  4. Oven: Preheat to 220°C. Place the wings on a rack over a baking sheet. Bake for 35–40 minutes, flipping halfway. For extra crispiness, use the grill setting for the last 5 minutes.
  5. BBQ: Grill over indirect heat (~180°C) for 30 minutes, then direct heat for 5 minutes for the bark.
  6. Serve immediately — they won't wait for halftime.

What to serve with them?

Eating couch wings is a social affair. Just put a few bowls on the table:

Tips for perfect couch wings

  • Patting dry is mandatory. Moisture is the enemy of crispy skin.
  • Rack over baking sheet. This allows air to circulate around the wing.
  • Make too many. They're always gone before the end.
  • Choose your rub based on the mood. Exciting game? Jamaican Jerk. Relaxed movie night? Memphis.
